History of The Department
Patacharkuchi familiar as an intellectual seat of Bajali Sub-Division under Barpeta district. Entire Bajali is a place of many Sanskrit Scholars. Nirmal Haloi College erstwhile "Pragjyoti College" was established in 1979 in the month of July. The Sanskrit department was also started in the time of establishment. At that time, the subject was introduced only for Pre-University classes due to lack of accommodation for opening Degree course. Degree class was introduced in 1985 and Major course was introduced in 2002. Total number of Major student enrolled was 6(six).
