At present, the department offers traditional courses (both Regular and Honours) and Business English at the U.G. level (BA, BCom). Besides a few add on courses viz. “Creative Writing” and “Functional and Communicative English” are offered by the department. The department is also mulling to introduce some other need based and student support, progression programmes in view of the increasing number of students and real-life needs.
VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT
At present, the department has only three permanent faculties. But in view of the increasing number of students and multiplicity and diversity of programmes and discipline, at least two more faculties are urgently required. Provided all is done, department of English would like to introduce coaching classes (charge free) for SSC, Banking, Insurance and Civil services examination with active support from the management. Further, department would like to introduce PhD Programmes in conformity with the dynamics of the NEP, 2020.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Department of English, with limited resource and facilities, tries to keep pace with the fast – changing world. A good number of students have made the department in particular and the institution in general proud by dint of their sheer hard work and dedication. There have been rank holders (Honours program) at the BA final examinations conducted by Gauhati University.
Apart from the academic achievements, students of the department have also carved a niche in the sphere of co curriculum activities. Shri Nikumani Kalita (2019 batch) brought laurel to the college in three events of music section at the University Youth Festival held at Gauhati University. Another student, Shri Bishaljyoti Barman (2020 Batch) got rank at the zonal youth festival and attained qualification to compete at the main competition at Gauhati University.
PLACEMENT
Department of English takes pride in the fact that nearly cent percent cent alumni have found employment as well as self employment in various capacities. Total number of placements are likely to exceed 200. Statistically, the department has a better placement record than all the other departments of the college
