Department Of Assamese
The soul mission of establishing Nirmal Haloi College (earlier Pragjyoti College) is to provide education for the poor and disadvantaged with accessibility to higher education by bringing the education to the door step. Keeping the mission in sight the Department of Assamese was established in 1979. At that time, the subject of Assamese was introduced only for Pre-University classes due to the lack of accommodation for degree courses. Degree courses were introduced in 1985. But due to lack of building infrastructure Assamese major was introduced in the year 1989. In major total student enrolled was 20 earlier. At present, in the major course the total no. of students strength is going to increase to 50 indication diversion of demand for the said department.
- 1. The department has the cherished goal of uplifting literature (Folk and Modern) , culture and language.
- 2. Introduction of PG course and research centre are other two goals.
